The basic responsibility of each coach is the conduct and administration of his or her team in accordance with HVYSL guidelines. 

Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

1)    Provide leadership that is appropriate for each and every occasion.  Be a good role model in sportsmanship.
2)    Create opportunities for his/her players to learn and develop soccer skills, sportsmanship and the values of competition.
3)   Involve parents in the management of the team in areas such as:  assistant coaches, telephone chains, refreshments.
4)    Select qualified assistant coaches and always have at least one (preferably two) helpers at practices and games.
5)    Provide players and parents, in writing, any practice information and games/tournaments schedules as soon as practical.
6)    Ensures (to the best of his/her ability) that each player plays at least one-half of every game that a player is present.
7)    Submits team roster and all changes to league and maintains all player passes in a safe manner. 
8)    Have league line-up cards prepared before arriving at a game site.
9)    Cares for all team equipment and distributes team uniforms.  At the end of the season collects uniforms and returns them to his/her club equipment director.
10)  Encourages all players/parents to notify the coaching staff when a player is unable to be present at a game or practice.
11)  Encourage each player to bring water to each game or practice.  Teach players about hydration and dehydration.
12)  Player safety is of the utmost importance during games and practice.
Report all unsafe field or equipment conditions to the League President.
The coach also maintains a medical release form for each player and brings it to all practices and games.
13)  Remains at the game/practice field until all players are picked up.
14)  Attend all club/League meetings and any coaching clinics when possible.
15)  Do not argue with the referee. If there is a problem, speak to the referee after the game and report any situation not resolved to the League President.
16)  Control your spectators during games and do not allow them within nine feet of the touchline.  Assure control of your players at all times.
17)  Report all injuries requiring medical attention, in writing, to the League President.
18)  If possible, provide a cell telephone for each practice or game to provide as a means to call for emergency help.   Per HVYSL rules, a first aid kit must be present at all games and practices.


ABOVE ALL ELSE, THE COACH SHALL PROVIDE A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT THAT ENSURES THAT THE COACHING STAFF, THE PLAYERS AND THE PARENTS HAVE FUN AND ENJOY THE EXPERIENCES PROVIDED BY THE GAME OF SOCCER.
